About four weeks ago, I started to feel something wasn't right with my pouch, the first symptom being that the quantity of stool was gradually decreasing when I went to the bathroom. I also felt some irritation, but that happens sometimes and I wait it out and it resolves. However, I gradually gotten worse and a week ago I started on Bactrim double strength but still haven't noticed an improvement. Bactrim has worked the best for me in the past, but I would end up being on it for a month before the pouchitis was knocked out.
My last bout was in January, and after I stopped the Bactrim, I got on Xifaxan, which I found was good for maintenance. Unfortunately, my insurance changed, and the new one refuses to cover it.
Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can do next? I have a doctor's appointment scheduled at Yale, but that's not until August 6th. Neither Cipro nor Augmentin work for me, Flagyl makes me vomit, and now I'm skeptical about the Bactrim working this time. I really can't go on waking up five to six times a night, as it is exhausting as I'm sure you guys have experienced as well.
