Do any of you find that you flare right after a pouchoscopy/biopsy? The strange thing is that my surgeon said that my j-pouch looked great and my rectal cuff had very minimal inflammation but then less than 2 days later, I flared. This has happened to me a couple times in the past too. I'm wondering if the biopsy aggravates the tissue down there and results in a flare. Does anyone have any other thoughts and any recommendations on how to prevent a flare right after a scope? How do you usually treat it? Thanks!

Funny you mention this. I had my scope last week. All was fine until then. Now the last few days I feel like I have more gas, bloating, mild cramping and less control....he did say though I have pouchitis so perhaps that is also to blame. He didn't prescribe anything though and told me to come back in 3 years??
Yes, endoscopy is invasive and can be a trauma, triggering a relapse. That is why it should be done only for good readon. That does not mean you should not be scoped, but maybe not as often. If you had a rigid scope as opposed to a flexible scope, that is a factor that can be changed (yes, you can refuse to submit to a rigid scope). Also, my GI does not use a standard flexible sigmoidoscope. He uses an upper endoscopy scope. It is more slender and more maneuverable. I don't have sedation either. I also always have numerous biopsies taken. I have not had issues.
