I posted this elsewhere in a forum but it has gotten worse.
I need advice and help.
I already called my surgeon and am waiting for her to call.
My problem had been going for a week now.
My small intestine is just gurgling and grumbling so hard it hurts.
painful.
I have constant leaks...constant....I have to stay by tbe bathroom.
Just in case more than a leak wants to come out.
When it does come out it is all liquid and very limited to the amount
that comes out...which is a very small amount compared to what I can hear
moving around inside.
it is constantly oozing out of my rear end.
I have no control over it.
Could this be some type of infection?
I am certainly not blocked up. I don't think.
as far as I know as long as something is coming out you have no blockage.
I had a blockage once. Super painful. Don't want that again.
Do these symptoms sound familiar to anyone.
I need help now before I go crazy.
Could it be my pouch is not emptying completely?
I cannot tell. I have had my pouch since October 2013.
Thank you.
Richard.

If you're suffering a blockage, you CAN have loose stool around the blockage. Meaning, the liquid CAN get around, and that's sometimes a sign of one. Hyperactivity, loose liquid stool... but.

Could also be a C Diff infection. They're more virulent these days.

It's good you made the call to the physician. I hope you find the answer and get relief!

It can be... but there are treatment options. Flagyl is a starting point, also Vancomycin. They're doing fecal transplants for them, too, especially if persistent. There are others on here who have dealt with C Diff, and can probably offer you better support/info. I am a nurse, and I know that they are more prevalent in the hospital setting, too. It's just like bacterial infections getting more virulent with overuse of antibiotics... C Diff is just getting stronger. We can all have it in our guts, but sometimes, it just goes haywire for various reasons (antibiotic use can be a trigger/cause).

Hang in there.

Hello.
They put me on two antibiotics.
Cipro and Flagyl.
But...it is the generic for both of them.
Hope they work.
I have not had a pouch that long and have not had problems until now.
Does anyone know how long it should take for the antibiotics to work?
I know it won't be overnight.
Also.
I bought some probiotics.
Any idea when to start using it?
Should I use it while taking the antibiotics?

VSL comes in two strengths, prescription and non-prescription. Prescription strength is very expensive, but may still come out cheaper than non-prescription strength when using insurance.
In my case, my guts didn't settle with VSL, so I am on Align which is not so expensive, especially at Costco with a coupon. It's in capsule and doesn't need refrigeration. Just a thought.

Update.
Been on the antibiotics for two days now.
Things have changed.
Some.
My BM's are small but solid now.
No diarrhea.
But I cannot be more than 20 feet from the bathroom.
I am going in there every fifteen minutes.
And I am being generous with the time.
Sometimes I get up to go out and have to go right away. Again
Small amounts everytime.
I hear people say they know when the pouch is empty.
I can't tell.
Is this normal?
What can I expect in the upcoming days?

Hello.
Now that I am on the antibiotics I get rid of one problem
and gain another.
Constipation.
Very painful.
Is this a side effect of the antibiotics?
I sure as heck do not want to go back to the hospital.
Been in there too much already.
Any advice would help.
Thank you.
Richard.
P.S.
Sorry to be such a pain but this is all new to me.

Well, if you are in a real bind (pun intended!), skipping a few doses will not kill you, and maybe get things moving again. You can use a laxative, but they can tend to be pretty harsh. Better off with drinking lots of juice, lots of water (hot tea or broth is great). You can back off of binding foods like cheese, oatmeal, bananas, etc. If that does not help in a day or two, then try something mild like Miralax or Milk of Magnesia. Do not take something like ExLax, unless you are interested in pain.

Then, when you resume the antibiotic, try it once a day for a couple of days before going to the full dose. Or maybe just the Flagyl. Going with both Cipro and Flagyl for the first Rx seems a little overkill to me, but I don't know all the specifics. For myself, I have never needed anything other than Flagyl, 250mg three times a day. If you are worried about C. difficile, I would not take Cipro by itself.

Yes...I have been drinking four bottles of water a day plus a few glasses of
other things.
I'll skip the ex lax.
I have enough pain from the backup.
I never had tests done.
I just called my surgeon and he prescibed both antibiotics.
Jan....thank you for all the advice.
Like I said before this is all new to me.
And I appreciate all of the advice I get.

When things get a little too thick for me, the only thing I can tolerate is Milk of Magnesia, because it's a non-stimulant. Also, I only need about 10 mls of it, I don't need a full dose. I go about 4-6 hours later, and it gets me on track.

But I agree, try juices first. Purple grape juice sometimes works for me. Prune is way too cramping.

I have had that happen sometimes also, mine is like a slime coming out and if often green, is yours like that? I get it even when I on the cipro. Try changing your diet and eliminating cards and sugar. The antibiotics helped me at first but I think are less effective now, I've been on them 2+ years. Let us know how it is going with the new diet. It has helped others.
