So... over the weekend I had a really rough time with my j-pouch. I felt incredibly fatigued, my frequency just about doubled (~12/day), and I had a lot of spasming and urgency. I pretty much felt like I had to go constantly, but managed to stay off the toilet for an hour or two at a time.

In any case, I was all set to contact my GI today to talk about pouchitis or a C. diff recurrence, but today, like magic, I feel completely back to normal. No urgency, on track for ~6/day, no spasms, etc.

I'm thinking it's most likely that I had a 48 hour stomach bug. However, I also started jogging outside again last week, and I'm wondering if it's possible that the exertion from the exercise OR exposure to pollen (there's a TON of it here) could have triggered the pouch symptoms? I didn't exercise at all over the weekend and I stayed mostly indoors, too.

Any thoughts? I know most of the time it's impossible to tell with this stuff, just curious if anyone else has ever found that exercise or allergens could trigger pouchitis type symptoms.

Hi Liz and Mike,
My pouch is often a bit irritated the day after I have walked a long ways, like 3 miles or so. I always assume it's probably due to dehydration. I try to conscientiously drink a lot after exercising but perhaps it's hard to get enough fluids to keep things running smoothly. So, I have a similar issue.
That's interesting because exercise always calms my gut and my headaches. However, I have a friend with Crohn's who swears that it's the change in weather that causes her flares - hot to cold, dry to rainy' etc. She said she anticipates it and prepares by staying as quiet and still as she can, kind of like "weathering the storm."
I've had this happen on occasion and I can say with a good deal of certainly that it was something I ate. Think about what you ate prior to that happening. Just a couple of weeks ago I was at a baptism party and the restaurant had the food buffet style. I didn't stop going to the bathroom for two days after that. I didn't feel sick, it just upset my j pouch something fierce. Something in that food selection did not agree with me.
Thanks all. I have usually found that exercise calmed my gut in the past too, but I guess all of this is making me a bit neurotic (to say the least).

I got a little worse today in terms of urgency and my consistency is still abnormal, BUT my period also just started unexpectedly. So I'm thinking all bets are off and I can't say anything for sure about what's going on with my pouch until that's over and done with.
