I have a question for anyone out there in the HR world. I've been offered a new job with a new company and I'm wondering about my need to disclose my medical history. I am currently receiving the Canadian disability credit and with my pouch and its issues I do take more sick time then the average joe. Then there;s the extra time needed for doctors appointments and such. I'm also worried about qualifying for things like long term disability insurance by coming into a new plan with an existing health problem. My current employer is extremely understanding with my health issues however this new job offer extremely appealing to me.

Has anyone in Canada (Ontario) recently changed jobs with their jpouch and all it's associated issues?

Isn't it good to have a choice between 2 things? I have other health problems and with my UC I went from more than full-time down to part-time and have been unable to work for over 2 years. My LT Disability insurance company and the U.S. social security disability both said the date of my disability was the last day I worked. I worked 1.5 hours that day.

You don't have the luxury of seeing what the future of your health is going to be. I'd guess you are not going to get better, based on your past health history. Your current employer seems like a good one. If you want a different job is there any other position with your current employer you'd rather do?

I have no idea of how old you are or if you have developed other autoimmune diseases or other health problems yet. So, I would say if you are older to stay where you are. If younger you need to weight the pros and cons.

I don't know if you have a job offer yet or not. If you don't I'd suggest you keep going after the job, you can always turn it down. You might find out you don't want to change companies. The grass always looks greener on the other side of the street until you get there and notice the weeds - or whatever that saying is.

I don't know how disability insurance works in Canada and am assuming health insurance is the same where ever you work. I didn't try to increase my LTDisability insurance benefit after I got UC. I personally paid for this insurance for over 20 years through a professional association insurance trust. To Increase benefits I had to answer the 10 or so questions and one would have been about my GI system. If you have to fill out a new application, for the new company's LTD, I'm assuming you will get this question.

About missing work. Do you get or earn personal leave days off or can work later one day to make up the time lost when going to a doctor's or testing appointment? Here many companies have a 90 day probationary period and if you don't turn out to be what they need for the position, like if you need too many sick days, then they could let you go.

Your current company has made it possible for you to take off the time necessary to deal with your heath issues. That says a lot about how they feel about you.
