hi friends ,
I am getting my final surgery in March at the Cleveland Clinic. My surgeon was able to remove my colon, construct the jpouch, and create the loop ileostomy all during my first surgery last month and so far everything is going great (just really tired all the time). I am so thankful that my surgeon was able to do this procedure in two steps instead of three!
My surgery was open and honestly I don’t mind the large midline incision (I think it looks pretty bad ass actually). I got my staples out 15 days post op and everything has healed up nicely.
After I ditch the ostomy bag my surgeon wants me to allow the wound to heal from the inside out which means it will need to be packed with gauze etc. My stoma is about 1 inch and I am a small person (5’3” 102lbs). Does anyone have any insight on how large my wound will be and how often I will need to change the dressing on it? I’ve tried looking on YouTube and google but haven’t found much. Also, any idea how long the wound will take to heal? My fiancé and I have tickets to fly to Italy that we purchased before I knew I would need surgery (the trip is scheduled for 4 months post takedown operation). Do you think I’ll be ready to travel 4 months post-op given there are no complications with the surgery?
thanks everyone!
