Hi everyone,

I've been wanting to do an update about how my health has been since I hit my six month mark post takedown. Especially for those who have been debating doing this surgery.

The takedown surgery was Sept 27th 2012 and so I'm just a tad over 6 months recovering.

Long story short, I was having some serious gas/cramp/urgency issues for the last six months. I felt that perhaps the surgery was not worth the physical, emotional, and financial toll that it was taking.

I read a lot about which foods caused gas, which drinks to stay away from and also read a lot from people that said they ate anything.

About a week ago, I decided to remove lettuce from my diet. Well it turns out lettuce is my krytonite. It has been the cause of the urgency, cramping and gas issues. I have removed that leafy substance from my diet and I feel like a brand new person! This may be an issue with other veggies as well, especially of the green variety. I know that there is a lot of information out there stating to stay away from raw veggies, but I'm hard headed.

It has only been a week since removing the lettuce, but I have decreased my BMs from 12-18 a day to around 6!

So my 6 month update will be condensed into a single sentence.

Life was hell, but now it's a blessing.

See you all around the one-year mark,

gleam

Just over 2 years post take down and I can eat a little salad with the nice whole meal salad - ie. a little salad with my chicken breast, bacon, cheese, boiled eggs, croutons etc Smiler It still does not fully digest but does not cause immediately cause a blow out but comes out with the rest of the same timing of the related meal.

So hopefully you can reintroduce salad's in the future. I love them. I told my pouch it had to love pizza and it did, so salads were not too hard to give up, lol.
I'm at about 5 months post takedown and I found out about 2 months ago my kryptonite is lettuce, chocolate and mushrooms. All 3 cause burning, diahrea, gas, and pain. I try to avoid them all together. Sweets also are not good on my Jpouch but I give in sometimes.

I'm happy for you and like hearing people's updates. It gives me something to look forward too.

Heidi
