Post stoma takedown bloats

I just had my ileostomy reversed 2 days ago and my bowels still haven't budged. I'm chewing gum and walking but the most disconcerting thing is that I'm bloating badly. I look about 6 months pregnant.

How long did it take y'alls bowels to wake up, did you bloat severely?

I had a single stage procedure, and my bowels took ten days to wake up. A very, very long ten days. Normally people are kept in the hospital until their bowels wake up, in part so they don't become dehydrated.

I did not have issues at takedown/reconnection.

After my first surgery, it took about 5-6 days post-op for things to get going, necessitating the reinsertion of my nasogastric tube for decompression. My stomach was hugely bloated; not something you want with a 12"+ scar! (I had open surgery in 1991.)
