A quick question (but will confirm with my GI at a later date)

Does anybody know if after successful J-Pouch surgery your diagnosis will still be ulcerative colitis, even after the colon has been removed? I do know that extra intestinal symptoms still linger.

Our water company offers relief for customers who have UC as an illness, and I'm just wondering if we J-Pouchers still fall into that bracket. I would assume (and hope!) so, as i still experience a fair few BM's every day, just without all the pain and horribleness that goes with it!

If anybody has any info that would be great.

This is kind of a murky area. It wouldn't be a falsehood to claim a diagnosis of UC, though the meaning has changed, of course. It would be a bit more accurate to claim a diagnosis of Inflammatory Bowel Disease, but only do that if the water company seems to know what it means.

Most of us have no symptoms of UC or IBD - cuffitis and Crohn's are the two clear exceptions. All of us are at some risk for the extraintestinal manifestations of IBD, but that has nothing to do with the water company.

CEZ-

I had UC and my diagnosis since my colectomy and subsequent surgeries has been UC, UC with complications, attention to ileostomy and ileostomy dysfunction. For me, my healthcare providers continued to distinguish if my issues were of the small bowel or large bowel.  I don't believe you 'lose' the UC diagnosis due to potential complications or even no complications.  Appears you are on the right path to confirm with your GI however as I can only tell you my experience. All the best,

Kara
