Hi Tracy,
Well it is possible expecially if it is around the old stoma scar (they usually allow them to close up on their own but there can be a weakness that herniates)...if it is a small hernia and does not bother you too much (obviously not the case right now) the doctor will tell you to leave it alone but if it is painful or causing trouble then yes, it may need fixing...most often they can do it through laporoscopy which is not open surgery but minimally invasive (but still a general anesthetic)...usually 1-3 nights in hospital and then home without too much pain other than gas.
Call your doctor to check it out...any severe and lasting pain is not a good thing.
