Hi guys,

I have had my jpouch for around 3 years now but been having problems consistently throughout.

My main problem is inflammation around the anus, my back passage feels so sore which causes urgency and pain.

I use mesalazine suppositories which do help but as soon as I stop using them the burning and soreness returns.

I am going to see my surgeon in January but does anyone else experience anything similar?

My main symptoms are very bad soreness internally but don't ever see any blood.

I haven't heard of them becoming ineffective. I have chronic cuffitis and lately I can't miss a day without it recurring immediately. I have days where I'm visiting family or whatever and I miss using a mesalamine suppository and I can get away with it but most of the time I can't. My GI says some people get to a maintenance dosage of a few times a week but I haven't been able to and have been trying for over a year. You have described cuffitis, which is UC of the j-pouch cuff, perfectly.

If it helps at all my GI specialist is at the Mayo Clinic and there has never been never been any question of the suppositories becoming ineffective just that I might have to use them forever.
