Hello,

I am now about 3 1/2 weeks from my takedown surgery. Up until yesterday I was actually feeling a little better. I am still going to the bathroom 15 or more times a day but it has become less painful. I realized that chocolate was the major culprit and have eliminated it from my diet(boo hoo!). I take one immodium at night and I only wake up 2-3 times.

This morning I woke up with horrible gas. I had bad gas in the hospital and a few days after I got home but have been much better. I am able to pass it fine without any pain or leakage and haven't had pains or bloating for a week. Today I am able to pass a little but not much. I am in so much pain I have only eaten cereal, some crackers, and a yogurt today. I have been able to go the bathroom ok but the last two were almost completely watery. I'm wondering if I have a partial blockage. I don't have pain in the abdomen beside horrible gas pains but I do have a localized pain in my lower back. I haven't had lower back pain with this surgery yet. Now I am laying her with a heating pad on my back.

The only difference in my diet yesterday was an avocado. My doctor said after 3 weeks I could add some fruits and veggies back in and avocado was always a safe food for me with colitis. Now I'm wondering if it caused a blockage.

Could I have a partial blockage or am I being paranoid? I have nightmares from that NG tube I had with my ileus after my takedown.

Not sure if everyone's symptoms are the same, but I often get severe low back pain combined with the sharp abdominal pain when I have an obstruction. The back pain usually starts it off and then the abdominal pain comes in waves after that, kind of like contractions. Normally this is quickly followed by nausea and inability to pass anything. I would think if you're still able to pass gas and some liquid stool, it's possible that it could be a partial obstruction, but it could also just be bad gas pains. I remember the first couple of months after my initial takedown the gas pain was awful.
Thanks for the replies. My lower back pain feels a little better today but the gas is horrible. I cannot even look at food without getting pains. I tried to eat some soup a little while ago and it was painful. The gas is so bad it hurts to even stand up straight. I am able to pass some gas and am going to the bathroom a lot so I don't think it is a blockage. I hope I have some progress soon Frowner I just want to get back to living.
