I'm wondering if anyone w/ a k~pouch has experienced a sinus tract wound ?
It's a tiny little hole in my bottom (where the anal canal would end). My doctor isn't calling it a fissure or fistula. I do have some pressure down there, and there's enough drainage to be continually annoying :-(
Last visit, my doctor actually made the hole bigger, cauterized the tract & then scrapped the inside - thought he might have to scrape me off the ceiling it was so painful ! No numbing. Needless to say I'd rather not go through that again. I'm seeing him on Tuesday & would greatly appreciate advice from anyone who has experienced this problem.
Thanks !
Ali

Hi....anyone with an ostomy can get an anal wound (not related to the kp). You may want to ask this in general section to get more replies and help.

Many ostomates have to have anal surgery redos. I've had 3. The last one was two years ago, 30 yrs after the last one. The teeny tiny hole still was able to get a hair infected. I had pain and discharge. But, I had it as a full out patient surgery under anesthesia....it's very painful down there...nerve endings hurt!

That was awful doing it in the office, ouch!

Prior to surgery, I had a procedure where they did an xray but put a teeny tiny cath into the hole and injected die to see if it was a sinus track or not. It hurt a bit but just for a few minutes during the pictures.
ok, thanks so much for responding Janice. I'm sorry you've had to go through 3 surgeries. I will ask my doctor about doing an xray. And
I will do another post in the general forum like you suggested. May I ask what exactly they did for you in surgery? And what your recovery was like?
Ask away, sure! The 2nd time, they put a balloon type them to keep a tiny bit opened while it healed. It never closed up completely even though you could barely put the tip of a q tip in it.

This last time, the colorectal surgeon cleared it out and no balloon. But, it took time to heal as I was older with more health issues. But, once it did, I was so happy. No more pain or discharge.

If the surgeon completely redos it, it can take several weeks to fully heal. But each week so much better.

No abdominal incision, they do it from the anal area within.
Oh, it was called a fistulagram. Even though they did not suspect a fistula, the surgeon wanted to be sure what was going on. It was a tiny needle the tech inserted very very gently, just enough to get the tip in. I still have my spincter muscles so squeezed them to keep it in (plus he taped it cuz he knew the opening was so small and not deep) through the 5 minute test.
