Last year I had a perm Ileostomy and rectal removal. Since then I have had so much pain in my sphincter....drainage and much blood and have been on constant pain meds. Friday I am having a sphincterotomy, total removal and closure. I was wondering if anyone has had this....what can I expect for recovery....?? Post Ileostomy my symptoms were better I could eat and wasn't so tired but, have been dealing with this pain pretty much since. Any one have this before??

Hi Lola,
It has been a while for me...over 30yrs but I had the whole thing removed and my butt sewn up in 79...if memory serves me, it was akward and uncomfortable...mostly...the first week was painful until they pulled out the sutures and drain (I think that the drain was The most uncomfortable part of it) and then it was just achy and difficult to sit for a while (those silly innertubes helped and so did cold compresses)...I think that I was lucky because I was out and about in a short time and did not suffer too much...but I still get pressure and phantom pains down there occasionally...I feel like the area is 'full' or 'heavy' and get contractions every now and then...
I do not remember it being as bad a pouch surgery...just rather annoying.
By day 3 or 4 I was on mild painkillers and anti-inflamatories.
Hope that this helps
