Peristomal skin on fire, please help!

Eric,have you heard of Multidex ? It is a sterile powder that cakes on the wound to protect the skin.My peristomal nurse at Mayo said it is commonly used on burn patients.I used it a couple of times,years ago,with irritation similar to the picture.It seemed to work ok.

My stoma is stenotic and tipped down beneath the skin; the ring of skin around the base looks just like your picture.

I was told it needs a surgical fix; won't heal up until the root problem is dealt with. Currently waiting for surgery date and in the meantime use a special powder as techwrench mentioned. It really does help a lot.

Hopefully the stoma nurse will be able to give you something similar, and evaluate to see what else needs to be done to fix the problem.

Thanks guys, I emailed my stoma nurse, just waiting for her reply, as for surgery, I'm having another one (no date yet) to fix my constant obstructions anyways, if it's still that bad, maybe he can repair it while I'm on the OR table, I'll keep you posted, and thanks again!

Ooooh, best with that. I hate the waiting! But yes, maybe if there is a surgical fix needed they can do it all at once; that would be nice!

Hi Eric,

I've been reading your recent posts and just wanted to say that I'm thinking of you and really hoping that things get better.
I remember you from years ago on the boards (when I was a regular!) and I am sorry to hear that you are battling these problems.
None of us knows for sure when we will be 'better', or when we do get better, how long it will last for.
Try to keep your head up and stay strong. Try to find small things each day that make you feel normal. Or things that you can appreciate, something in nature or the sunrise (hey, you're not sleeping anyway right?!), a funny video on YouTube, or a song that you love.
I hope you can get in for your surgery soon!
