Hi all,
I've been having some leg pain that led me to a specialty physical therapy clinic. They have a pelvic floor dysfunction specialist there (quite credentialed, physical therapist, clearly knows her stuff). She spoke to me in quite a bit of detail today about how, after having an ileo-anal pull thru, as well as my small bowel obstruction which led to another emergency surgery (and very, very little intestine remaining) there can be quite a bit of pelvic floor dysfunction and a wide array of difficulties that can arise from this, including the potentially the pain I've been having in my low back, sacrum, hip, and groin, among other things. She spoke to me of doing a pelvic floor map, both intra-vaginally and intra-rectally (not nearly to the level of the pouch she says). She works regularly with GI docs, but not on J-pouchers before. What she said make tons of sense, and there is a consideration for long term continence issues, other preventive considerations, and creating improvement in my current functional level. Anyway, has anyone with a j-pouch had a pelvic floor map done? And then treatment? I'm definitely interested, in considering my structural health and long term function, but/and have told her we need to be very specific with my GI about what she is thinking before we even consider it (and get his okay) - seeing as if there is a small amount of insertion into the rectal area for the mapping (with a gloved finger) to assess muscle tone and nerve function in specific quadrants. She assures me that the intra-vaginal assessment (which can also, in part, assess rectal function via a shared wall between the two areas) is far less than my pouch would experience with vaginal intercourse.

I'm quite sure not a lot of folks would have heard of this. It is very legit (I'm in the occupational therapy/physical therapy world professionally and know this to be a specialty area) - and whether I proceed or not will be based on what my doc says...however, if anyone has experience, I'm all ears.
Thanks!
