I have some stenosis in my small bowel so my GI wouldn't do a capsule endoscopy without a patency capsule first. I swallowed it on Monday and had an x-ray on Tuesday, apparently it was lodged in my small bowel. Was very nauseas Tuesday night but feel better today. I had to go in for another x-ray today. It's supposed to start dissolving after 30 hours. Does anyone know how long it should take a capsule to go through our small intestines? Is 24 hours too long? I tried to find answers on Mr. Google but couldn't get a straight answer and I suppose it would apply to people with colons anyway.

When I was talking to my doctor I was told 6 hours on the capsule endoscopy but this info may be dated. This was in 2008 and at that time the size of the capsule frightened me and I refused the test due to a history of blockages. I hear they are smaller now.

Is the patency capsule a capsule with a camera that dissolves?

Why are you nauseous if it will dissolve or at least should have dissolved?

The patency capsule is a pre capsule endoscopy test. It's given to people when their doc is worried the camera might get stuck, so it's kind of a "test run." I felt nauseated last night but it cleared up, I assume because capsule began to dissolve. Was just wondering what is the norm for the capsule to hang out in our no-colon GI tracts. 24 hours is probably too long huh?
