Hi all,
I had pouchitis a couple weeks ago and ever since then I struggle to pass gas. I have never had a problem before this and now it's almost impossible to pass. It is very painful and I have tried, yoga poses, Beano, Gas X, Visbiome, lots of water, Pepto, and Flagyl. Does anyone have any suggestions? I read somewhere that my rectum may need to be dilated? Thank you!

Hi. I struggle with this as well. Have also tried Gas-X. I take VSL # 3 daily, three a day at this point, four was too much. I am currently taking Xifaxin for 30 days to combat pouchitis. I also use Canasa suppositories which I believe help to “open” up the rectum. I try not to eat food that will create gas.
I am miserable. I’m hoping to hear some other opinions.

Yes, I am pooping but not passing gas like I used to. I feel like since I had pouchitis pretty bad a few weeks ago that things have changed in regards to my passing stool and gas. Prior to my pouchitis (I am five years post take down) I had no issues with my pouch. I had some mild pain now and then with going but nothing to the extent of my recent infection. Since I completed my 24 days of Flagyl, I am back to struggling to pass gas. I have a lot more runny stool then I did before and have not been eating a lot because of the change in frequency and the gas. Is this normal? My scope is scheduled for October 4th (routine check). Thanks!

I am sorry this is happening to you, I was going to suggest that it could be a blockage but since you are pooping, that is good.
Glad your scope is coming up, definitely keep me updated.
Sometimes calling daily for cancellations can help move up the scope surgery since some people cancel randomly. I would try calling to check around 10am and about an hour before closing, that helped in my experience get things done sooner.
