Always a fun topic, but seriously...I don’t pass gas for fear of accidents. But that means more rumbling in my tummy. It mostly occurs at night around dinner. I also take gas ex almost every night.

I wonder how everyone else handles gas?? I mean the body is meant to pass gas. How are we expected not to? Is that the new normal for us j pouchers?

Passing gas has been the most challenging issue for me since my surgeries almost 2 years ago. Expelling any gas is almost impossible unless laying down, usually on my side, on the toilet while eliminating or when in the shower. I have found that if I feel it rolling around (especially when bending over), getting in the shower and being able to relax in the warm water, if I bend over, the pressure on my tummy helps it come out. That is mostly the best way to relieve the pressure. Trapped gas is the worst issue with my j-pouch surgery, except pouchitis. Gas-x doesn't seem to help me but I am thinking of trying Beano with meals. I never let my body pass gas unless lying down or in the bathroom. I know better.

Amazingly, the past several years (takedown in late 2006) I have been able to fart freely, just like I used to. Evening time there is more gas, and it's been refreshing to not have the fear I used to. That said... I was on an antibiotic a week or two ago and thought I was safe - only to check, "just in case," and turns out my freedom went away until things got more solid (still on the antibiotic, but after the "runny" spell of being on it).
