I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but it's getting to be a pain in the a--.

I know that it's a no no to pass gas other than on the toilet, but sitting down? I seem to have a lot of gas  and lately when I pass gas sitting down I have leakage and it causes severe burning. Sometimes I can get to the bathroom to clean up but not always. My rear is so sore I can barely touch it. It also seems to be happening to me during the night. Any suggestions?

When I've had leakage at night it's generally been a sign of pouchitis. For most folks that's easily handled with a couple of weeks of Cipro or Flagyl. If it really is just gas then SIBO is a possibility, and that's usually treated with a different antibiotic (e.g. Doxycycline) for a few months.

From what you're describing, the burning might just be from stool coating the unprotected skin for too long.

I had been on Cipro for 10 days a few weeks ago and I still had leakage. I hate to go on another antibiotic so soon, but I have a GI appointment tomorrow and see what he says.

The leaking just has to happen and immediately I get the burning and that's with Calmoseptine. Guess I'll just have to deal with it, it could be a worse problem and thankfully, it's not.

With a J-pouch you should never try to pass gas unless you are on a toilet. This is because of the very loose stools you will now have. If you want to thicken up the loose stools a little take Imodium A-D, in the softgels form, reacts quicker that the regular Imodium hard pill, it contains 2mg of Loperamide a couple times a day or before bed time. For gas problems take Gas-X after meals. Gas -X contains 125 mg of Simethicone. It comes in blister packs for easy carry along for eating meals out or when gas problems show up. I use these two items to make J-pouch life easier on me.  I have had a J-pouch for 21 years.

After having my pouch for 16 years, I very occasionally fart (under controlled conditions). I only do this when I know that I am having thick poop, I am laying down (I find it much easier this way), AND I do have access to a bathroom and clean underwear just in case I misjudged. I usually do this if I know its gas and I was asleep. I really try to avoid foods that cause a lot of gas because its just not worth the discomfort to me anymore. I don't eat beans or cooked crucifers.

If you have a lot of internal burning and pressure its probably pouchitis. Mine doesn't show up as diarrhea. It actually shows up more like constipation. I suspect it might be because of the inflammation blocking me up near the anastamosis site.

Lol, I don't trust a fart.  U have to laugh.  I always use pantyliner's.  Must save on the underwear.  I was dx with siob and took 2 rounds of  Xifaxan; helped somewhat.  I now am taking  EnteraGam for 2 mos.  I thought it was was helping.  Its a prescription medical food powder to help with ibs-d and supposedly with gas.  I thought it was working.  Maybe I was wishful thinking.  They say can take up to 12 weeks.  I'll give it some more time.  I tried charcoal for gas, helped somewhat.  It's a every day battle like I said before.  Diet is the key and all the rest pray it helps.  But thanks for the tips everyone.  I'll try gas x

This story might put a smile on your face.  Over the weekend shopping we went to a store where I live close to West Reading called Baldwin brass.  It's known for it's door nobs, kitchen handles, etc.  The sales lady came up to us and said do u want a experience of your life?  Sure why not.  They had this toilet on display for sale called toto washlet.  You could try it out in the  rest room.  It had a remote control with settings for how the water comes out to clean ur bottom and it's warm.  The seat is heated and always dries your bottom.  I must say it was awesome experience and wish I could afford it.  I thought of getting a bidet, this is the ultimate bidet.  I use a sitz bath when it gets to bad.   This toilet seat starts from $299 to $499.  The toilet with all bells and whistles can go up to $4000; can u believe that?  Why do all the rich get the comfort.  Realistically in all the money I put out of pocket for meds the seat wouldn't be a bad investment. I  think the ins co should pay some of the cost; what do u think?  That burning and pain is awful.  Just saying.  Thought u all could use a laugh or maybe try one out.

Hi, TF.

You can get a bidet to attach to your existing toilet for around $80 with hot and cold water on Amazon. Cold water bidet cost a bit less. It's not too difficult to attach, comes with detailed instructions or you can find on YouTube how to install. I bought one with hot and cold water after my reversal and it saved my butt, literally. Along with a travel bidet squeeze bottle, my burning raw skin was "cured" and I've never looked back

Thanks for the funny stories, ya' gotta laugh! Gee, $80 for a bidet on Amazon doesn't sound bad. I guess you would need a plumber to hook it up, right? If my husband were alive he'd be able to do it in a minute, but I know that I couldn't for the life of me. I have a travel bidet, which is a nuisance. I get water all over myself and the floor....sometimes my bottom is so sore I can't even use it, like today, well, almost every day. I also use panty liners, thank goodness for them. Sometimes I have to change them twice - all depends on the day, it's really sickening. Sometimes I don't even know that they're soiled. My GI doc told me that he has some samples of some kind of peppermint stuff that he thought I could try to stop the gas. I'm stopping by his office on Thursday to pick them up and will let everyone know how it works. Thanks all of you for your responses.
