Hi y'all, hope your all as well as can be expected. I had a gastroscopy last month and it resulted with me seeing the pancreas consultant as I have an adenomatous polyp on my pancreas which he has me going for an ultrascan to see how deep it goes. I am also awaiting an side scope further upstairs. The words cancer was meentioned, somewhere after he said adenomatous polyp but my memory is hopeless. No doubt all will unravel itself further after my scan. If memory serves me right - and I hope it does ! the cancer bit is related to the fact that the polyp is adenomatous and I have FAP. I will have my wife with me when I return to see him and her memory is amazing ! Mind you she is 10 years younger than me !

I have skirted over some info on the pancreas and may have found the answer for my increased stinky output, and even I say its bad ! My wife steers clear of the w/c until its safe to venture in again. Apparently it is a possible symptom of pancreatic cancer - I am not saying I have pancreatic cancer, but it is a possibility according to this info.

So ! I'd really appreciate any input from folk with FAP who have experienced this, a heads up as to what may be in store would be a big plus. Its strange though as this year I've been feeling that it will be my final one, I know that sounds defeatest and morbid - but I am a fairly upbeat dude, just a realist I suppose.

Thank you all for taking the time to read my post - and a big thanks to those who respond.

Namaste,

Rev

Hi Lenny,

Is your polyp actually in the pancreas or is it on the ampula?  In 1992, my GI found a polyp on the ampula and referred me to a surgeon who had experience removing them with a scope.  The procedure went well (he got it all and it was not malignant) and I was discharged home the same day.  I soon developed pancreatitis and was hospitalized for 6 days and was NPR with a morphine pump to control the pain.  Everything went fine afterwards and my GI carefully checks the ampula as part of my annual endoscopic exam. Removal of a polyp on the ampula is a tricky procedure, so be sure your surgeon has done many of these procedures. I have not had a recurrence, although my GI has removed polyps in my duodenum on a fairly regular basis. FAP is a nasty disease and I hope things work out well for you.

Billy, I appreciate your response. Pancreatic problems are very painful and I really feel for you Billy, even though it was back in 1992. My brief research has revealed how painful it is.

I can't remember where it is Billy, but I will have that information in a few weeks. I am still waiting for my upper side scope ! I have noticed how poor the communication can be between departments ! I was recently tested for sleep apnea, and await the results. I stop breathing when I lie on my back and I am lucky to have an observant wife who gives me a dig to wake me up !

FAP, yup ! Its a rotter ! I have two children who were lucky to escape inheriting such an unwanted lodger !

I will report back after my ultrascan, until then I wish you the very best of health Billy.

Namaste,

I am now belching more than ever, even when having a drink of tea/coffee/mint tea ! I am also bringing up food, and have been sick a number of times. Also I am feeling bloated after most meals. My ultrascan is next week, so at least more will be revealed.

Strange phone call tonight ! Around 6pm a lady rang me and asked if I was aware of my forthcoming ultrascan ! She wouldn't tell me where she was telephoning me from and never gave me her name ! Yet she knew mine ! She was pleasant enough but a little mysterious. Apparently appointment letters had not reached everyone and she needed to know if I was aware of my ultrascan.

I have had a call from the hospital and the lady did tell me her name, that phone call was to warn me I was to receive an appointment with a consultant I'd not seen before and not to be worried. With my current health issues I am worried !
