When my pouch plays up it sometimes gets really painful and starts throbbing, regularly like feeling my heart beating in my pouch. Anyone else have this and if so any tips for easing it?
I am about 11 weeks post take down and experienced terrible issues with spasming and throbbing feeling in my pouch. Especially with excessive gas...I would just send me into a total spasm and very, very painful. My doc prescribed me Levsin in addition to the pain meds I was already taking. The levsin did help so you might want to ask your doc about an anti-spasm med. Levsin, Bentyl, Donnatol are a few that most prescribe.
Thanks for that. Yes I do take anti-spasm meds and the only thing that really helps is 10ml of oxynorm which I only take when it is really bad at night. Goes away as does the raw external skin when I take Cypro. Wondering if I will have to take Cypro full time now.
Kiwi, You are the only other poucher who has described that feeling that I feel whenever things are misbehaving with my pouch! I feel like my heartbeat is coming from my pouch!
I have told doctors that and they think I am nuts.
I am 6 years post op and I still have that feeling.
Good to know I am not the only one Tammykitten. Do you get pouch inflammation, pain, Burny watery output that makes your external skin raw and higher frequency at the same time?
I frequently get a throbbing sensation particulalry after emptying. I have had a stricture and recently have been told I have chronic pouchitis so either could be the cause?
Sorry to the few pouchers who have experienced this throbbing but I just wanted to weigh in that I have DEFINITELY had this symptom. In fact, at a recent GP visit I had the doc put her hand at the top of my pouch and she also could feel the pulse......she immediately ordered an ultrasound as she was concerned I might have an abdominal aortic aneurysm! The test revealed no aneurysm and no findings that were worrisome but I can say that my pouch and digestion have been "off" lately, or at best, changing. But isn't that belly heartbeat strange! It really scared me and I'm not sure how long it's been there..... perhaps it's entirely unrelated to anything recent?? I am two years post take down and I have had little trouble with my pouch but I am a very, careful picky eater. Until recently, I have mostly stayed with a low fiber diet with a limited selection and limited quantities of fruits and veggies. Only thing different then many pouchers is that I take a daily low dose of narcotic pain medicine for an un related neuropathic condition and just now it seems the pain med. has slowed my bowels to a crawl. I am now, like others, eating more fiber (fruits, veggies especially)and even taking Milk of Magnesium or Citrucel to fight the constipation. So different then before. It's like the pain medicine used to balance out loose stools and now it's stopping things up as my pouch has gotten more efficient. That's what others on this site have suggested and it makes sense. Anyway, I just wanted to go on record as having as having a "pulsing pouch." BTW, the technician thought my doc and I were just feeling my regular aorta as I am quite lean right about there. Has the throbbing stopped or continued for others?? Savannah
