Hey everybody,

I've been using my jpouch for almost two years, and other than fissures and the occasional leaks, I've had a really good jpouch experience so far. Until about a few days ago.

So about 4-5 days ago I suddenly felt like I'm having problems empyting my pouch. Like I have to push to let anything out (whereas I usually just relax and I can easily empty). And I don't feel like i'm empty but I can't push any harder. I feel pain around the lower part of the pouch and hurts on and off.

I will admit that over the past 2 months I've been taking immodiums more often. I've been taking 1-2 pills every 3 or 4 days or so, whereas before I took them at most like once a month. I just prefer going out with friends and not want to worry about using the bathroom all the time.

Thought I should mention I have FAP and not crohns or colitis.

has something like this happened to one of you?

Thanks

Sure, this is fairly common. Your Imodium use is pretty small, but everyone's tolerance is individual. There is a carry over from day to day, so over a few days it builds up to a constant level. I would suspect that you are just more sensitive to it than many of us. The other thought is that there just is a temporary partial obstruction due to adhesions (internal scars) that we all have.

Either way, treatment is the same. Stop all bowel slowers, increase fluids, and back off on eating roughage until this resolves.

If after a few days thing do not improve, you may have an anal stricture that needs to be dilated. This does develop gradually, but symptoms may occur suddenly once the critical stricture point is reached.
