I had a flexsig about a month ago to check out the pouch and anastomosis due to having a recent flare with pouchitis or cuffitis. I had taken couple of rounds of antibiotics and had improved a lot yet still had some discomfort specifically on left anastomosis area. Told doctor something just still didn't feel right...he said then we should take a look. He said he had to manipulate the anal area to get a good look. He saw mild inflammation in that area and a couple of small punctate ulcers in the pouch. Nothing that looked to bad. Said to use Canasa suppositories and follow up in a couple of weeks. The days following the scope the discomfort began to increase and became intolerable (thought might be from were he said had to manipulate that area). Three days out noticed a swelled area between vaginal opening and anus. Thought this possibly to be a hemorrhoid. Managed to get back in to see doctor and he said was a skin tag that was causing all my pain. He says at this point he doesn't think removal is a good idea as it may just trade one problem for another...he says the open area where skin tag would be removed could possibly take forever to heal (Does this mean possibly never??). I just started back up using the Canasa as I had stopped do to the excruciating pain it caused when inserting. But still feel like there may be some inflammation it needs to work on. Will this skin tag ever go down and the pain subside?? He said he saw no fissures or fistulas during scope, but could he possible have missed the fissure (as I have read fissures sometime bring on the formation of skin tags). Am I doomed to have to live with this pain forever? Discomfort I felt was much more tolerable before scope. Please any insight to this problem would be of help. I am desperate at this point. Just want to be able to enjoy life again.

Did they biopsy at scope? This can also cause nagging pain after. I have had fissures and they are very uncomfortable. I have also had repeat episodes of cuffitus w pouch ulcers in lower pouch and this also causes bad anal pain at times. I have never had a skin tag. Warm baths may help as well as the Canasa or anucort if you can tolerate and antibiotics for some reason always help my anal pain caused by cuffitus or fissures. Not sure why.

Yes biopsies were done and came back showing some pouchitis but nothing abnormal outside of that. Did take another 7 days of antibiotics and it didn't help this pain, just seemed to thicken things up a little. It's not a pouchitis pain. My frequency and urgency are normal but do have some blood in stool. Feels like most pain is focused around skin tag and anul opening. I have had sharp pains like I have heard described as broken glass or stabbing pain when going. Which makes me think fissure but skin tag is definitely were some of the pain is coming from as it is swelled and irritated. Have read they are usually just tabs of skin that aren't painful but this is not the case. Doesn't help that the head of this irritated tag protrudes over anul opening, so each bathroom visit just aggregates it. Thanks for your input.

Hi Julie. I had an inflamed skin tag from a fissure that caused terrible pain like you're describing. My GI sent me to my CR surgeon and she decided to remove it. It was uncomfortable while it was healing, but it was definitely the right choice. Pain was completely gone. So, I'd maybe see if you can get your surgeon to look at it to decide if it can be removed. Hope that helps.
