I'm gonna cry, well I already am. After 2 years of having my jpouch, it was dysfunctional, and removed on August 2nd. I always had trouble with the adhesive on the ostomy bags, and after just 2 weeks, I am a mess again! It's not a leakage issue, the skin around the ostomy is perfect. It's the adhesive. I have a raw, burning, itching, oozing thick red ring, where the coloplast appliance was. It is causing lots of pain, and the chills. The ostomy nurse came up with a contraption, cutting off adhesive, and using a belt. She also prescribed a cream for yeast and allergy.

Now here's the question: which appliance do those of you who have had a similar issue with adhesive use? I don't want to clear this up and then keep repeating this painful mess over and over again, searching for the right appliance.

I thank you in advance. I am already having enough trouble accepting the loss of my jpouch, and I want to move on with my life, but I can't as it seems I traded one misery for another misery.

call all the various appliance manufacturers and get samples of their wafers. Even call coloplast ... if you are using sensura, get a sensura extended wear, get an assura, get an assura extended wear. I have found that different wafers have different adhesives. And certain ones definitely cause the same problem with me as what you have. I absolutely cannot use convatec wafers of any kind. So your skin could be reacting to the particular kind of adhesive on the particular kind of wafer you are using. also.. if you do actually have a yeast infection.. that will cause problems with any wafer. Got to get that cleared up.
good luck. I feel so sorry for you.
best for me has been coloplast sensura regular or coloplast assura extended wear.
Also just re-read your post.. if you have a yeast infection usually they give you nystatin POWDER. Its a prescription. You can probably just call your surgeons office for it. Just powder it on the messed up area and blow it off before applying the wafer. I would be hesitant to be putting creams under a wafer. Seems it might cause worse rashes.
has your problem resolved and what did you do? I use colopast and have the same problem. I have used yeast cream and also a hydrocortozone cream and just wipe off any excess then use the skin barrier pad. I still have problems. the skin doesn't look bad but it sure itches around the outer ring of the wafer. The stoma area is fine.
It has improved greatly, but now I have Peristomal Pyoderma Gangreosum, so I have a whole new set of issues. I am using coloplast extended wear 2 piece click system. It really has made a difference. I had to use the contraption that the ostomy nurse came up with until the rash was completely dry and gone. I don't use skin barrier wipes or adhesive removers. I remove appliance, jump in shower, no soap just water, then use a blow dryer to dry up the area. I use eakin seals and then blow dry again to get a good seal. This has done the trick, (knock on wood). Of course there are many other steps I have to go through for the Peristomal Pyoderma Gangreosum, but that's a different drama!

Hope this helps!
I have been using a puffer! The kind they use for asthma. It works great. I have skin issues all the time, of one sort or another. This has been a God send for me. It goes on dry so the appliance sticks no problem. I use it until it heals up, stop, then as soon as it starts acting up, I repeat the cycle. Hope this helps.
