I have been changing my dad's ileostomy since 2017. Recently I tried something different that helps very well. So i put the powder around my dad's stoma, before I put the ileostomy bag on my dad's stoma, I put vaseline or aquaphor around the ring of the ileostomy bag wafer. After that I put the ileostomy bag on top of the stoma and voila!!! Its extra protection!!! And it helps my dad's stoma not get as many wounds as it did before.

Vaseline is magical! Hope this can help the ostomates out there if you need extra protection.

Dr Remzi saw the cause of the jpouch growing up in the abdomen as a restriction near the bottom. So first surgery to create ostomy and let pouch and surrounding tissues heal and rest for 6 months. Then at 6 months- surgery number 2  - he will remove the restriction in the mesorectum and will either reduce jpouch to normal size or create a new one. At 9 months from first surgery, Oct 24, he will hook the restored jpouch back up and close ostomy. Much more extensive and disturbing situation than I was expecting. But it is what it is. Going to NY Oct 21 to start the thing.
