My osteopenia is now osteoporosis. I read recently that this could be from malabsorption because of the pouch. Just to make matters worse I'm on letrozole for breast cancer which is known to cause osteoporosis. Is anyone else having problems with osteoporosis? I'm a pretty active 62 year old. I exercise almost everyday and I eat healthy foods. I've had a pouch since 1988. Also, for you newbies, this might be something to talk to your doctor about. I just read about this in an article that was published this spring.

I was diagnosed a few years ago with it. I get infusions once a year with “ reclast”. its once a year for 5 yrs and I’ve already seen a significant improvement from my 2nd infusion.
It’s very important for j-pouchers to take calcium & vitamin D, back in the 80’s & 90’s I could never find any that agreed with me, always made me I’ll. Now you can find allergen free everything.
Not enough calcium & D can also affect bone loss in your teeth.

What are the vitamin D and calcium supplements that work for you? What are the allergens you deal with? I think I have a problem with dairy and many supplements (including the revered VSL#3 probiotics) are dairy-based.
My allergies are egg and intolerance to dairy. I take a multivitamin “Naturelo One Daily multivitamin for women and Andrew Lessman Ultimate Calcium intensive care with vitamins D3 & K2MK-7 120. This combination seems to work for me.
I can not take probiotics, it has the total opposite effect on me
Thank you! I also have issues with dairy. I wonder if it's just the milk/lactose or if that extends to the bones of the cow? I also am experimenting with collagen powder. I don't seem to have a skin allergy to cow leather, so I assume I'm ok with other cow parts, but who knows?
