Hello -

I had my J Pouch in 1989 and been doing really well. 4 weeks ago I started with horrendous pain and vomiting.
Was taken by ambulance to the hospital and after a CT showed double blockage in my small bowel needing emergency operation asap as the tissue in my bowel was dying.

OPERATIVE FINDINGS -

Multiple interloop adhesion through out the small bowel mixture of grade 2 and 3 interloop adhesion(Zuhlke grading system),10 cm of dilated loop of the smal bowel proximal to the J pouch, that has caused closed loop obstruction.no bowel ischemia, enlarge liver, safe and careful dissection with combination of sharp and blunt dissection and adhesionlysis.no stricture/obstruction in the pouch, patent ileoanal anastomosis.

Been home 2 weeks and the pain from my wound is really bad - eating soft diet but really concerned of another obstruction and needing a permanent ileostomy.

I am interested if anyone else with a j pouch has experienced similar.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Take good care,

Linzalisha 💕💕💕

I have not had total blockage yet, but my GI says that it may just be a matter of time. Scar tissue has narrowed the opening to my J pouch and the closed end to less than the width of a pinky finger. As of yet, it hasn't been a major problem since the day of my colectomy and J pouch (2004) my stool has never been formed and my doctor says that for now, as long as it isn't blocked, it is ok.

Hi Lauren,

Don’t know what caused it. I have felt unwell generally for a few weeks and Drs kept saying I had respiratory infection but maybe this was brewing. Who knows!
Terrified of it happening again.
Trying to manage wound pain and my insides healing is bad.

I really hope you are keeping well Lauren.

Thank you for replying too.

Thank you for your kind words. My GI says that it is Crohn's of the J pouch. Apparently there are small ulcers always in the J pouch and scar tissue forms over them. When I had my total colectomy I had no idea that ulcerative colitis could become Crohn's of the J pouch.

Bless you all.

Yeah, I hear that often about Crohns attacking the pouch. I those people including you had Crohns the entire time and its just reaching the surface now unforuntately.

Are you going to keep your pouch???
