I am about 9 weeks out since my takedown. Each time I have a bowel movement, I have to strain to get it out and then I have to go again 10 minutes later. I am eating the Metamucil wafers( 1 pack), florajen 3 (probiotic) and lomidal(max 3 a day). Due to this feeling I go to the bathroom around 12 times. My dr checked for stricture and I didn't have one. I go for follow up next week. By the way, my stool is formed, no cramping or blood. Any thoughts?

You may want to reduce your Metamucil wafers and/or lomotil, as you may just have too formed stool. The ieal pouch does not have the strong musculature that a rectum has, so is not capable of contracting for evacuation the same as a rectum. With time you may be able to handle firmer stool, but it probably is too soon. I always do best with semi-formed as the firmest stool. You may also want to increase your fluids.

In addition, you need to sit long enough for your pouch to empty by gravity and gentle bearing down.

If you do not have a stricture, you may still have some pelvic floor dysfunction. Tis is where your muscles are not contracting properly. Physiotherapy can help with this, if it is an issue. But, again, this just be part of your learning curve, as it is so early for you.
