I remember a nurse telling us to no longer use extended release medications with a j-pouch as they won't absorb properly. Anyone else been told that? Would it hold true for delayed release as well?
That's correct. These types of meds are made to release lower in the digestive system and you likely won't get the full dose and therefore effect from the meds.
Not a blanket contraindication, but a blanket caution. Some of hese meds are always OK ( such as 24 hour meds withno delayed release). Those with secondary or delayed release may be effective, depending on your own transit time.
I stay away from those and try to get things that are liquid, chewable, or liqui-gels. With my fast transit time I figure it's the best bet for my body actually absorping it!
