Turned out I had chronic cuffitis that was keeping me up at night. This was diagnosed fairly early, but we didn't think it was a big problem, because the inflammation wasn't too bad. Silly me didn't think my function could improve after 4 years, until I had a bout of pouchitis that was treated with Flagyl. After the first dose, I slept through the night for the first time since surgery. I then realized, I could do better. We thought it was maybe just the pouchitis, but symptoms crept back in after stopping the Flagyl. Eventually, we came to the conclusion that the underlying problem was the cuffitis. I overlapped Canasa suppositories with a week or so of Flagyl, then stayed on the Canasa. Been good since then, but switched to oral Azulfidine for maintenance. Only rarely need the Canasa now.

I was taking the maximum loperamide (Imodium) too, but now take 4 a day.

Diet and restricting food in the evening made no difference at all for me.

Oh, and Flagyl also greatly reduced my gas production, again, with the first dose.

Since this is a change for you, you should be assessed for possible pouchitis or other development. For many folks a course of antibiotics (e.g. Cipro) is sufficient to make it go away. I found that VSL #3 kept it under control for a couple of years. Some docs will treat based on history, while others will want to take a look through a scope first.
