Hey guys I'm joey, I recently gotten the jpouch surgery on feb 5th, I was in the hospital for 7 days everything went smoothly, and when I got home things are ok except for a few things I gotten a UTI and hemorrhoids, I'm having like 15 bm's a day my appetite really isn't there but I still try to make myself eat twice a day, I am drinking a lot of water and Gatorade, but I've lost 25lbs since the surgery,  

For others when did you guys start feeling back to normal you no yourself again and when the the pooping calm down lol

My reversal surgery was performed a couple of months ago and although I developed a infection in the wound of my old Stoma site, I was feeling ok and eating normal within 10 day of being discharged from the hospital.

I remained in hospital for 5 days after surgery, initially I would have 10 BMs per day, which reduced to about 8 by time I was discharged, that has since reduced to around 4 to 6 per day now, depending on how much I've ate.

Just after my j pouch creation last year, I lost my appetite for 10 days and I lost 22 lbs,

It's only since my reversal surgery have I gained 12 lbs.

Hey buddy, I had mine on feb 2nd so not far off yours, one thing Id try and stay away from the gatorade as it contains a lot of sugar and other junk that can sometimes lead to more frequent bowel movements which is the last thing you need. Start early and keep it up with the mind set that anything with sugar in it, isnt any good for you or your pouch!

 

I was having quite a few bowel movments too that were quite watery then I read about how pepto bismo can fight off pouchitis so I started to take about 4-6 tablets a day and Im just starting to wean off them a bit while I switch over to oil of oregano but I swear I must've had some form of pouchitis as my stools are more formed and less frequent now, I'd say in the range of 8-12 depending on what I eat, currently.

 

My biggest issue too has been the hemorrhoids to the point that I do sometimes feel like skipping means just to avoid the discomfort, they are no fun thats for sure I just save my biggest meal  being around lunch time when I get a lot of calories in so when I do finally get home I can have a bath after having some bowel movements which awlays calms the behind. I've always found that having a shake or two can really up your calories by adding a few things, such as peanut butter, bananana, yogurt, protein powder, etc and it's really easy to down and taste awesome and usually doesnt lead to any extra discomfort.

 

I'm sure a veteran poucher can vouch that it can sometimes take a year or longer before your pouch really learns to expand and hold your stool longer thus reducing the frequency of the bowel movments. So I guess we'll just have to wait a see where we're at in 11 or so months, let's hope for the best for all of us.

I had my takedown surgery in  2014.  I was in the hospital  4 days and as soon as I got home went back with a raging UTI.  I guess that happens to many of us.  It has almost been a year and I am still learning.  I have found that potatoes, bananas, rice and yogurt are my friends.  It is different for each person.  On good days I have 6-8 bm's sometimes less sometimes more.  I lost 30 pounds after surgery.  Food just did not sound good or interest me at all.  I am just now starting to have a better appetite, but eat several small meals.  If I over eat I feel awful.    You will feel better!  It just takes time.  Best wishes!

I lost weight pre-surgery, and immediately post-op (I'm barely 5'2", and left the hospital around 88lbs).  But I gained weight fast with my loop ileostomy. I was back up to about 100lbs at takedown.  By my mid-20s I was probably 110lbs, on average.  Thirties, around 120...

 

Now, in my "older" years (40s), I have the opposite issue!  lol I'm the highest I've ever been, non-pregnant, at 133lbs. 

 

I do know some con't to battle low weights, but I'm pretty sure most don't eventually at some point after takedown.
