Hi guys. I just had my third surgery 10 days ago ( ostomy reversal). I am currently trying to make dietary alterations - thankfully I am a former competitive bodybuilder tweaking food is something ive always done.

My issues now are bad rectal burning around the skin and incomplete feelings of evacuation. This whole precess started in March - I lost 90 pounds in seven weeks. Undiagnosed UC. emergency colectomy. Here we are.

Thanks so much 1BEFA6BC-1EDC-442E-8755-E8AC7527EB5C6477DE8A-E226-41CC-9B77-BB4C6FA66C42 suggestions?

I got good results by applying a barrier cream after every BM, so the skin is protected for the next one. Many folks like Calmoseptine, but I found it too intense. Plain old zinc oxide works just fine. There’s a mild product sort of in between the two called Ferguson Formula 361 that I liked, but it’s uncommon and no one else here seems to have tried it. The good news is that I haven’t needed anything in many years, and you’re likely to get over this, too.

We all have gone through the same, however, CLEAN the area very well - wash if possible, pad dry, and apply either ointment is working such calmoseptine or a mix with diaper rush cream.
For your evacuation issue, it too will get better each day and you will get your pouch and body working as a team.  Make sure your liquid intake is sufficient- actually go for over which allow the pouch to be full and evacuation will be easier.  Managing your diet is essential to success.  Be easy with the food you eat more so at the beginning- stick with pouch friendly!
you will get the hang of it soon.  Be kind to your body and self

H-David..congrats on a successful jpouch surgery…..the backside burn and incomplete evacuation is a normal new pouch feeling that many experience. As already said, keep things clean, use a barrier cream, and stick with easy to digest foods.  Just remember that things WILL get better and it is a slow process.  For me it took over 6 months to really start noticing a change with my pouch but it will happen. This site is a great place for advice and is full of wonderful people that understand what your going through

Whoa.. I hate to show a pic of myself after 3 surgeries.

I do have one. I wasn't in bad shape to start. Not like you. But I looked skeletal by the time I had a pouch.

It's different for everyone . Being in good shape before surgery is a must. If it can be done.

Good luck.  It's a tough road but your on it.

Yes. Cream after every movement helps. And don't be rough down there prior to cream.

Good luck...

Richard.

I do not use toilet paper that often, I like to wipes whenever I poop. Calmospetine Cream is God's gift!! Seriously lol, the best thing I have ever used. Gets rid of the itch too!!! When I am in the shower, I wash my butthole with my hands with Ajax dish soap is a dish soap degreaser and it cleans the bacteria excellently!! Drinking EXTRA water helps a lot with butt burn too.

A lot of people have a Bidet but I am too cheap to buy one haha!

I haven't tried ajax but might try the finish dishwasher tablets.

I have had my Jpouch (aka Jolene) for 2 years.  I highly recommend a bidet.  I have a very inexpensive one from Amazon.  The only time I experience the anal burning is when I am on vacation and do not have the bidet.   As far as the feelings of incomplete evacuation it will get better.

You named your j pouch too?!?!! That is sooo cool! Mine is the emerald city of oZ.

Do you still use diaper rash cream?

Haha well I’m 5 weeks post third surgery

can’t figure out the bloating in my lower abdomen that looks like a huge pooch I’ve never had.   surgeon actually told me it was difficult because I was so lean to reattach my skin lol  what a process

I appreciate all of you so much

I’m back up to 205 from a low of 152. 6F951AE3-00EA-4733-B2FF-9FE2C62DF6DD7C472A29-048E-4397-93F6-91144351ECF6

You can buy plastic hand-held bidet’s on Amazon as opposed to getting an actual bidet installed in your bathroom. I have one for my backpack and one in each bathroom. You just need to fill it with water and spray away, it’s great. Saves on toilet roll too as I have a towel in each bathroom I dry with after.

Also I use bepanthen to prevent butt burn and I use zinc oxide to treat butt burn. As for weights, I’d say slowly build up your abs before you do anything else, once that’s stronger you should be ok. I’m only 2 and a half months post op and around week 6 I gradually started doing isometric abdominal  exercises first off, it’s still a work in progress for me too,

good luck

Thanks man! Yea I have bidets in the house and I have the green light from the surgeon to train. Back in the day I was a strength and conditioning Coach so thankfully I’m able to program my own training. Keeping it reasonable. I have heard others on this site talk about never going over 25 pounds. My surgeon and her entire practice said that’s not real and they’ve actually performed j pouches on two guys who are as gift in the nfl. Just no heavy deadlifting.

Nice one, mate. You know the drill then haha. Yeah, plenty of athletes have had j pouch surgery, you just don’t hear of it unless you search it because nobody wants to talk about bowels or poo!

Happy training 👍💪
