So I'm in Amsterdam for my pouch advancement surgery; the building is older than the AZM in Maastricht, and I am realizing how spoiled I've been! Predominant colours here: orange, brown, dark green... Everything just seems shabbier. So far I've only done intake stuff and the care has been fine; we'll see as things go on.

A couple of random new things which have made me smile. For the FIRST TIME ever I have been asked if I want to be revived if there is an emergency on the table! I guess 42 is the magical age cut-off. Razzer Also, I've had two identical armbands attached, one to each wrist. Maybe they are afraid I could rip one off but presumably be too weak/tired to rip both off?

And I'm being given a drink by Nutricia: "preOp". Tastes like mostly flat, super-sweet Sprite. Looked it up online and it is supposed to help with healing, but can't figure out how or why. Anyone else have a clue? Apparently will be served it 3 to 4 times in the next 12 hours! Not horrible, but the following burps are pretty interesting... Cool

An old quote that I hope stands true for you...maybe what they lack in style and design they make up in exceptional medical care?
Here's hoping that it all goes well and that you are finally free of all of the problems.

(ps...here in Paris the '70s are back in style...orange, green and brown...so your hospital in extremely trendy as far as French standards go!)

Good luck, GinLyn. I can tell you that the hospital where I had all three surgeries is considered the "Mecca" for these procedures and aftercare in NYC. The hospital itself was ugly, the views were depressing and the nursing care was, shall I say, "no nonsense." Yet I knew it was the right place for me to be and they'd be able to tackle anything that came up during my stay.
