Hello All,

my best friend had surgery last week and now has a colostomy. Her dilemma is, she has terrible arthritis in her hands and it’s very hard for her to hold and cut with the ostomy scissors. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding what type of scissors she could use? Her colostomy is still changing size so she can’t buy a fixed size bag just yet. She is in one of the top hospitals and they are not very helpful. So I’m reaching out to my J-pouch crew to see if anyone could help.

Thank you & Happy New Year!

How nice of you to reach out for your friend.  I might suggest looking into moldable wafers.  I also have arthritis in my thumbs (having surgery for it in a few weeks), and have found that the convatec moldables are SO much easier on my hands, and easier to shape/fit around my weirdly shape stoma than cutting.  You can get samples by calling convatec and discussing with one of their nurses.  Let me know if you need their number and I'll dig it out for you.
