Hi,

i permanently live in Charlotte. Had my J pouch in three steps with multiple complications due to malnutrition and poor health when my initial total Colectomy was performed back in June 2014. I'd like to say I was a complicated case but aren't we all. I live in Charlotte and have traveled to UNC chapel hill for all of my appointments and procedures and with my new work schedule I cannot continue doing so and instead find myself suffering through my problems instead of rescheduling all my patients last minute. Normally I see Dr. Hans Herfarth at UNC, sought about by many in the Southeast region, I'm sure. Does anyone know who the best J pouch specialist (not surgeon but clinician who deals with post J Pouch formation issues) is in the greater Charlotte area?

Thank you so much.

Charlie,

Thank you for the advice. UNC's J pouch clinic also responded to me this morning saying that there does not exist any J pouch specialists in Charlotte but recommended Dr. Mohanty at Charlotte Gastro or Dr. John Hanson at Carolina Digestive. Now I have 3 recommendations. Which to decide..ha

My pleasure. Dr. Schmitz would still be my GI if I lived in Charlotte still. I moved to Jacksonville, FL in 2008 and have been at Mayo Clinic here since then. I have no hesitation recommending Dr. Schmitz, he's got a good bedside manner, listens to his patients and is fairly young (near my age 47) and is pretty up to date and was quite knowledgable about J Pouches, etc... he referred me to my surgeon, Dr. Douglas Rosen, that did my initial surgery (Dr. Rosen also is top notch). If you see Dr. Schmitz tell him that "Charlie Henricks with FAP" said to say Hello, I'm pretty sure he'll remember me after all these years as I was a very unique patient of his! Super nice guy. You'd be in good hands, again from my experience, with him.

Best Regards,

Charlie
