Hey all!

I struggle with drinking enough water, and I know a bunch of you do too! Here’s my simple but effective trick for drinking enough water throughout the day.

Basically, every-time you use the bathroom, drink one cup of water (or two if it was liquid). Obviously sip on water throughout the day, but this has helped me drink more water without even noticing. Hope this helps the right person!

This is a great tip. Thanks so much for sharing. I was recently in the ER for dehydration, low sodium and potassium. I think any of us who have had a j pouch for a while know how important it is to stay hydrated. I feel like it’s so hard to keep up- no matter how much I drink, I’m always thirsty. So this is a great tip!

Any other good tips out there?

I’m also curious if anyone’s docs keeps tabs on their potass, sodium, and magnesium levels via bloodwork, on a regular basis (every few months)?

Ryan, I’ve been told that the inability to get rid of that endless thirst means that you should drink electrolytes instead. Obviously drink water, but incorporate electrolyte rich drinks too. I play sports multiple times a week, and during practice I always have that endless thirst, and drinking a bit of Gatorade always takes it away. Hope this helps!

Good idea! As 9%ers ( 14bms or more people) its hard for us to stay hydrated regardless of what we do unfortunately. We just learn to adapt to it more.
