Anyone with a sinus tract have worsening sacral or coccygeal pain? I’ve had a persistent tract since takedown, a couple of sinusotomies so far and awaiting a third but not for another couple of months. I’m having worsening pain with sitting, emptying, any pressure on my pelvis. Was already treated for osteomyelitis last year. Wondering if the sh*t is hitting the fan. No fever, still working/eating so not septic or anything.

Anyone’s sinus tract turn into a real problem?

Tf,

A sinus tract is a leak off of the pouch, kind of like a fistula but with a blind end. Is this what you have or do you mean the sinuses in your head? If the latter than unlikely related to your pouch. I noted in one of your other posts that you have tailbone pain. That was a sign of a sinus tract (leak off the pouch) for me but I’m sure there and be other causes of pain as well.

Sara Marie,

Most sinus tracts are at the anastomosis where the pouch is stapled/sewn to the anal canal, though you can get them at other suture lines. Mine was discovered almost immediately after takedown as I had serial imaging to monitor unrelated pelvic abscesses that occurred after stage 2. Yes, the sinus tract was the cause of the bone infection. My surgeon did the usual pouchogram with contrast prior to takedown to make sure there were no leaks but that study didn’t catch it. I was very sick at takedown so maybe poor healing at the staple line. Who knows. As you say, so much can go wrong with these pouches and some of us just seem to collect complications like stamps.
