MRCP showing liver heterogenity and vein occlusion

hi people,

had my colectomy in February and had been doing ok and then not ok and then better. then husband got sick and had to deal with that. Last week i had MRCP to follow up on pancreas issue. Nothing major there, thank God! however, there are some irregularities in liver and veins. namely, decreased portalflow to some liver segments, near complete occlusion of a segmental vein, and heterogeneous early enhancement. I will have a special endoscopic US soon.

Has anyone heard about this? i am less than 5 months post surgery (colectomy) and always had NORMAL (even low just prior to surgery) liver function tests (AST,ALT, bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase)... this is incidental finding as i have no symptoms that i can think of.

Karin, yes. It may be Primary Scroloing Cholingitis. I may not have spelled it correct. My son was just diagnosed with it and is possibly caused by having UC. It's a rare disease and causes liver and bile duct damage. They will be able to tell you more after you have an ERCP, which is a special endoscope procedure which can see the bile ducts and if necessary clean them out.

This does not sound like PSC, which affects the bile ducts, not the hepatic veins, as far as I know. I would not be surprised if you had some clotting issues associated with UC, which is not uncommon. Not sure what the signifigance of early enhancement is though.
