Looking for advice.

I have a j pouch from uc.

My daughter has been going through very similar issues to how it started to appear with me.

Her doctor says that uc is not hereditary.  I disagree.

What we need are suggestions for help with the mouth ulcers. She has counted 12 ulcers inside her mouth and her lips are swollen. She's small to begin with and is losing weight because it hurts to eat.

The only doctor that feels she has uc or crohns is her dermatologist because of other issues she's been having.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I am by no means an expert in any of this stuff.

But my grandmother had an ileostomy in the late sixties. Both of my brothers and my sister have gut issues. Along with myself.  Any further into my family's medical issues were never mentioned. But I do know the above and I'm positive it goes into other relatives long passed and I will never know.

I was told also it's not hereditary. I didn't believe that at all.

My grandson has autoimmune issues. Severe skin issues.  No gut issues. And I hope he never does. His skin issues are bad enough.

Second opinions are invaluable. Or. A new Dr as Scott said.

Just my 2 cents. And I have always had cold sore problems. From a young age. No ulcers in my mouth. Thank goodness.

I was diagnosed with uc and when my colon came out, pathology said it was uc. I have frequent mouth and genital ulcers. I keep mine in check with azathioprine. Yes I have my colon removed but my auto immune disease is still active and attacks my mouth, anus, genitals and also my joints. I'd have her evalued by a physician and given treatment. Lidocaine can help to numb the pain in her mouth for a bit until the ulcers heal.

Thank you for your responses. We appreciate it. I am trying to get her in with my Gastroenterologist but it's a long wait.

I will tell her about azathioprine.

I also still get the mouth ulcers and  inflammation in the small intestine, pain in anus and joints.

I was on remicade and now we are trying Entyvio.  Fingers crossed that it works.

Again, thank you 😊
