Hi my husband had jpouch surgery over 10 years ago. his doctor put him on morphine sulfate as a maintenance drug to control his bowels. just wondering how many of you out there are also on morphine sulfate? Is this common or is this unusual for someone to be prescribed morphine sulfate after J pouch surgery? Thanks for any input.

id like to know how well it works? i have found very little that helps. i have read that codeine is sued in euprop. i had a script for that many years ago. it did seem to help but one cant get scripts for that very easily today. I do have a script for hydrocodone and use it some. its not as effective but about the only thing that helps with anal tissue pain and somewhat slows the bowel. J pouch subjects cannot use aspirin or aspirin like pain meds.
I would say it is highly unusual to be prescribed morphine for bowel slowing. Paragoric or codiene is mor common as an opioid option. Morphine just has such a high abuse potential. I can only assume they’ve tried everything else.
