I need advise! I’m post Jpouch 2011. For 8 months I am having constant bowel movements without warning. I’m wearing protection 24/7. My GI did tests which gave us no answer! I’m worried my pouch may be failing. I also have discomfort feelings that I have never had! It’s embarrassing and frustrating to go out in public!

I just wanted to make sure I ask this specifically, they did fully test you for pouchitis right? pouchoscopy with biopsies right?
Yes I was tested for pouchitis. It was positive but two months later negative. Im afraid I may have become antibiotic dependent!
And I am taking Cipro, 4 days now.
Cipro often works very quickly for pouchitis. If neither Cipro nor Flagyl work then other possibile causes include infections (e.g. C. diff, Giardia, etc.). These can be harder to test for after antibiotics, unfortunately.
Is the Cipro helping. Some people do better with a Cipro & Metronidazole combo. Has the 4 days of Cipro helped?
The Cipro has not started working as of yet. I do feel better as far as discomfort/ pain in the gut.

Honestly, that would make sense about the antibiotic dependent

There are several things wrong with calling this antibiotic-dependent pouchitis based on the information provided. There is likely some missing information, since we don’t know what tests the GI did, however: 1) infectious causes may not have been ruled out, 2) only a single antibiotic seems to have failed, and 3) antibiotic-dependent pouchitis means that antibiotics are working, not that they are failing.
