Hi Guys,

Just wanted to see if anyone can relate or has any tips. I'm 5 months after surgery now (J pouch end of oct / first ostomy in july after emergency  surgery)

It was quite hard in the beginning but after two months we've learned that I had an overactive pelvic floor, like your pelvic floor muscles that just cramp and stay like that for hours, Finally after finding a specialised fysio for this, the relieve was fast and it kept getting better. Felt better and better, sometimes night time BM's but overall okay.

Got back to normal life, started working again, doing sports and going out. Even went on a holiday with my wife and kid.

But lately it's just not that good anymore. First and most important. I get up like 4 -5 times a night. the sleep deprivation is really making me feel like shit. Never for a full pouch, like that it's really necessary to go. Just gas mainly or going and just a litle bit comes out. And afterwards can't get back to sleep because of the irritated feeling in my cuff-area.

I used to have decent BM, but now most times it's stinging and raw feeling in the cuff after every BM.

I've had psyllium husk before and was really happy with it. But with the pelvic floor issues and the straining needed to poop. I stopped using it for a few months. Now when I try it again, I always feel like I can't empty completely..

I didn't really change anything, I don't really now what's up. I just feel down and tired.

I'm having a camera check up planned for next monday and seeing my normal doctor to talk about sleeping pills tomorrow.

I wonder if your pelvic floor needs a refresher? Was there active manipulation or just exercises you came home with? Are you taking the psyllium with a full 8 oz. of water and around mealtime? Have you tried the basics to reduce gas (no carbonated beverages, eating slower to swallow less air, etc.)? Your sore anus could just be from high frequency/straining, or it could be something else.
