France is pretty well known for its mineral waters...they have 100's in this country...but I usually only drink filtered tap water since a nasty kidney stone incident...but there are some 'highly mineralised' mineral waters (they usually taste kind of salty and can be bubbly as well)...they come from an area around Vichy, a rather Volcanic region...anyway, I am not selling the stuff but I made a discovery this weekend while out that way for a 4 day spa treatment on my pouch/hip...a) The Vichy water is absolutely fabulous for dehydration in Pouchers and normal people with gastro...and b) it seems to slow down the digestive system.
I always have 2 glasses of water, a pot of coffee and a glass of orange juice in the mornings and within an hour my pouch is empty and squeeky clean. While there, the only difference in my breakfast was the water...theirs and not filtered tap water...my digestive time went from 1 hr to 6...and my stool output seemed to thicken up substantially. To the point where I thought that I have become the envy of every j poucher I know (I have a k pouch and really need things to be liquidy in there, not solid!)...I was irrigating my pouch 20xs a day too just to get things liquid enough to get the stuff out of my pouch...I tested it for 3 days...day 4, this morning I drank regular water and sure enough, It all emptied out within the hour.
So for those of you who have out of control pouches and need to get their hydration under control this could help you.
