since my takedown 7 weeks ago ive had a mild hemorrhoid that after about 2 weeks of new butt burn has just turned vicious on me. its swollen hard and so so painful. first i could use some advice on what to do because pooping through it is excruciating and second has any noticed that calmoseptine may actually aggravate tissue rather that calm it? im really starting to think it is causing a lot of my butt burn. any thoughts or advice are very very welcome. Yes, I suggest your see your doctor about it just to make sure that's what you are actually dealing with. I don't think any of us are really qualified to give advice on this one because it might or might not be a hemorrhoid. For instance, it could be an abscess. Please go see your doctor. You should also write down all the questions you have so you can get your other concerns answered as well. Do not rely on your memory for those questions.

Hemorrhoids are def one of the evils of having a j-pouch. I am dealing with them too and haven't had them since having my kids over 22 yrs ago. When I had one hard and swollen back then it was what they called thrombosed (had a blood clot in it) and they lanced it and it was instant relief. I would def. check with the doc. Sometime soaking in warm water will make them burst on their own if that is what it is. Good Luck, I feel your pain!!

called the doc and he said if its not relieved by tomorrow on its own to come in and they may drain it if need be. up until now my hemorrhoid has been present but completely tolerable, now it is not. is this going to be what life is like with a j-pouch and a hemorrhoid or will i be comfy most of the time?

Gee, I wonder if this hemorrhoid has been the source of much of your grief all along. I would imagine that even minor irritation of a hemorrhoid with a new j-pouch would be murder, making everything worse.

Hemorrhoids are one of the few things I've never personally dealt with, before or after the j-pouch. But, I can imagine how awful they can be!

Hope you get this settled soon.

what id really like to know is can life with a j-pouch and a hemorrhoid be good or am i now doomed? when it was mild it really didnt bother me and at times i didnt even know it was there. please guys, tell me this can still be good...

im also thinking back before my decision to have the j-pouch i asked my surgeon if my hemorrhoid should be removed and she said NO! absolutely not because removing them cant cause scaring. if life is hell with a j-pouch/hemorrhoid wouldnt she have advised me against it? all of the responses in this thread have really shaken me.

My hemorroid rears its ugly head without warning and when it is present it is HELL! Fortunately for me, this doesn't happen often. When it does, all I do is increase the intake of Metamucil (the powder mixed with water variety) which makes b.m.s softer, formed and so much easier to pass without irritating the hemmie. They are miserable for everyone....poucher or not. Best wishes on finding relief for yours. Oh.....our journey is just that.....a journey to formerly unknown stops and starts and places. For me.....it has all been worth it these past 11 years.

well i guess if i dealt with it during uc and 30 trips to the can i can deal with it with a pouch n 6 trips. going to my surgeons today and first i want it properly diagnosed then she will drain it if necessary. she said its like instant relief instead of the days or weeks it took before to chill. does cutting it cause long term damage or scaring? ill wait the week for it to go down on its own if thats the case. i can say its been a frustration since my takedown because that side of my butt hurts alot more than the other holding in gas and stool. was just hoping it would chill eventually. the nurse said sometime draining it give very long term relief. welcoming more experience or advice before i head out the door?

I'm actually glad this topic came up because I think I'm starting to deal with one.

What is the difference in pain levels when comparing an abscess to a hemorrhoid?

The pain that I have is in the same area each time (seems like it is just inside where the anal muscle is), but it only hurts when I have to go to the restroom. And usually right before and a little bit afterward, but after a couple of minutes the pain completely goes away.

I've been taking more metamucil and I've upped my dose of Imodium which has helped.
