I have seen past posts and surveys on Metamucil and before I try it myself I wanted to see if anyone had any adverse reactions like blockages?
Thank you,
Nicholle

Somebody posted a year or three ago about accumulating a mess of it in his gut, but other than that the large majority of posts have been positive. Some folks get gassy or bloated with it, but that seems to be a minority, and I think it’s worth giving it a little time to see if that effect passes. I’ve used it every day since two weeks after my surgery in 2002.
Some folks advocate taking it with very little water, but I think that’s a mistake. I follow the package directions (I make a 50:50 mix of Metamucil and Konsyl).
Wondering how the Konsyl helps you along with the Metamucil ? I have also been using Metamucil 2 x day (Before breakfast and before dinner – 1 tablespoon) pretty much since I've had my pouch as well... and my pouch is older than yours. Getting my j-pouch was my 3rd surgery, So, I'm guessing I lost more of my small intestine along the way.
I suffer from chronic pouchitis too. Right now, I'm on one Cipro a day. Lomotil keeps me going when I go out. I've also started taking one or two lomotil before I go to bed so I don't have so many nighttime trips.
It's a rocky trip isn't it? Some days are better than others. Not sure if it's related to what I eat or something else most of the time when things are bad.

The only reason for the Konsyl mix is that I find the straight Metamucil too sweet, and I don’t need the extra calories. My pouchitis is really under excellent control - I haven’t had a bad pouch day in years, I’m happy to report, and I eat a completely unrestricted diet. I’ll consider myself supremely lucky as long as no tendons rupture and my peripheral nerves keep nerving along.
I use metamucil just about every day. At first it bound me up but after I figured out the correct dosage I was good. For me it's about 1 teaspoon mixed in water right before I eat. Works great and seems to prevent butt burn.
Scott, thanks for your reply. So glad to hear you are doing well.! Did you mention the "...Tendon Rupture in my peripheral nerves" because you're on Cipro? How many are you taking a day? I thought that's what Cipro can do long-term. I'm on it once a day now, Unless things get worse and then I always go to two. I hope that doesn't happen to me either.
I'm going for my first Remicade infusion tomorrow.
I have been trying 1 Tablespoon Metamucil in water before breakfast and dinner and it is working great. Can’t believe it took 19 years to find it😳 Not sure what Konsyl is but I’ll look it up. I too have been taking Cipro for 9-10 years I do once per day unless trouble comes along then I do nicotine patch first then try a second dose of Cipro if the patch doesn’t work but do far so good. My Dr first tried Flagyl but that made me knees seriously wonky, Cipro no….. knock on wood.
@jrws I take 500 mg of Cipro and 250 mg of Flagyl, all at bedtime. I was being glib, but the Cipro side effect of greatest concern to me (combination of likelihood and severity) is tendon rupture, and the Flagyl side effect of greatest concern to me is peripheral neuropathy. Luckily I’ve been spared both so far, after 14 years of Cipro and about 7 years of Flagyl.
