I am celebrating Christmas with a good friend of mine who has ulcerative colitis, even though I am the product of a Jewish parent and a Catholic parent and therefore legitimately entitled to celebrate both Chanukah and Christmas. I did this in past years when my parents were still living here in Connecticut.

My friend with UC and I started a unique tradition last year: the "Chinese-Italian" Christmas. We order a bunch of Chinese food from this great Chinese restaurant 3 houses down the street from where my friend lives, and his cousin, who is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, bakes a tray of lasagna and prepares some other Italian food. My job responsibility is desserts - I will bring some pies and some gelato. It turned out to be a really interesting experiment last year. We both came up with the idea after he broke up with his live in girlfriend, who in prior years had always done a Christmas buffet. So we needed to break away and start a new tradition.

Hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday.
A happy, healthy and Merry Christmas to you all...I have purchased my very first Christmas tree ever and decorated it last night til 2am...I figure that I deserve one...Because it makes me happy and happiness is as important to our health as anything else...so giftwrap a special gift for yourselves and place it under your tree with a promise for a better year for those who need it.

CT sounds like you have a great holiday tradition going on. I hope your friend with UC does well.
I have always celebrated Chanukah, but I really love the Christmas season. So festive, I now have a 4ft tall "holiday tree" my husband actually found that someone had thrown out. I put lights on it and have it up at our cabin and like you just like to turn all the other lights out and enjoy the tree lights . Happy Happy Holidays to all.

He is in his mid 50s and has had UC for 35 years. I have never heard of anyone having UC that long and keeping their colon. He is on 6MP and seems to be doing very well with it. From what I can see he looks, eats, and acts like he is healthy.

We have been good friends since graduating law school together in 1991.
ct there are folks who have uc and take something that keeps it in remission..i know a few..actually its my understanding that 30 per cent of uc suffers need the operation..we just fall into that group!and here is another statistic..of that group only about 15 percent go on to have additional issues like pouchitis..i am not sure exactly of the pertenage that have to lose the pouch but i think it is smaller still..

but it can be worse..i am grateful i found something to control and give me a life with the bacterial overgrowth i now have been diagnosed with instead of pouchitis..doesn`t change anything as far as treatment i might add..

happy holidays
