so I had a small hernia repaired where my ileostomy was almost 2 years ago, and this weekend I may have done too much around the house that I moved into and messed it up. Its in same area as the repair and I had mesh put in. I am a thin guy so I could always feel the edges of the mess since it was an onlay repair , which always felt weird to me. But when I cough hard I get a push out from that area but I cant tell if its just normal muscles tightening pushing up against either scar tissue or the mesh?? I am going to the doc next week to see what he thinks.. If they had to do another repair is it a more difficult surgery since mesh is already in there?? damnit I hope its not, almost got to 2 years without any type of surgeries.

Thanks Jan, I saw a new general surgeon today that I went to see about an eventual gall bladder removal at some point down the road. Since Remzi left Cleveland he stated to get in with Dr Dietz at University who is head guy over there and trained under Remzi. He referred me to this general surgeon and he was able to get me right in. Surgeon at Cleve Clinic told me earliest I could get in is 2 months..lol. He stated that the area I was concerned about is of no concern. He said he can feel the mesh and some scar tissue but even if very minor he wouldn't do anything about it right now anyways. He said I could have just pulled or strained a muscle moving and its inflamed. He did say I have some weakness in the abdominal wall just above the belly button at top of the main incision. He stated that if/when I needed the gall bladder addressed, that he would repair any other issues at same time.

I asked him why people who have had hernia repairs and jpouches are out lifting weights and doing strenuous activities and I was told NO by Dr Shen, he said he was not sure, but easing into situps and other things without getting too crazy would be good to strengthen the abdominal wall. Im guessing Shen is just being cautious due to all my many surgeries and issues. But then again he told me he doesn't want any jpouch patients doing any abdominal excersizes..

So how much does it extrude when you cough? You can also hold your breath and bear down to feel it. A minor protrusion is nothing to concern yourself about. You do not mention any pain or other symptoms. I would not get ahead of yourself about a repeat repair until you have it evaluated.

Jan

I do not have any other symptoms except some soreness and tightness
