Major Butt Burn

Were you diagnosed with c.diff? If so are you sure you are over it? You shouldn't take Cipro when you have it. (I got c.diff from taking Cipro once.) When was the last time you saw your GI? It sounds like you might need to get a second opinion? I wouldn't try Prilosec without discussing it with your doctor.

You may need more fiber bulking foods. Have you tried metamucil?I think there is a med they can give you that reduces the bile and helps with your issue. I cannot recall the name, but I have seen others post about this on the board and it has helped them.

I have chronic anal pain and burning but mine is from cuffitis (and spasms), You scope should have shown this if it was an issue for you. Before being diagnoses with chronic cuffitis, I do remember the first six months being pretty tough with regard to burning and anal pain. Possibly you are still adjusting to the surgery but I would talk to your GI about any other oral medications that may help you.

The resin that binds bile acids is called cholestyramine. It might be worth discussing with the doctor. I second the suggestion of Metamucil - I still use it eleven years out.

Try avoiding wheat. If I eat wheat, I get spasms/urgency in my pouch, and the burn.

Pepto-bismol helps with the burn, also reduces gas and bad odour.

I have had my Pouch now for 4 years. The first year was terrible. Cramps, Buttburn and urgency. I was seriously thinking about going back to the bag. I went to my Gasterologist and he found out I have chronic Pouchitus. I had buttburn so bad that I had sores around my anus. He put me on Budenoside for the pouchitus and Welcohl for the acid in my feces. I used extra strength Desitin, Calmoseptine cream and anything that has a high Zinc content. It helped alot. I have my ups and down with my pouch but it is so much better now. This is the best holidays I have had since finding out I had UC(about 7 yrs now). It will and does get better. My butt burn finally got better with time and a good bidet. None of the creams I tried really helped, but I did not try Ilex because the idea of accidentally pasting my butt cheeks together flipped me out. Now, 10 years out, I sometimes have to use Questran (the Cholestrymine mentioned above) when things threaten to get bad. I wish I had used it in the early days.

Good luck. This can be horrible, but you will find a solution and one day is will be a long-ago memory.

I use ILEX for the butt burn and it has been a lifesaver.

My takedown was 8 years ago and I'm sold on Ilex. Couldn't do without it.

There are bidet type systems that you can attach to your toilet seat relatively inexpensively. Using this system every time you go may help to get rid of the burn.
