Hi--was recently told that I need to have my colon out. One bad bought of UC in 2009, nearly died but recovered. No IBD meds since 6-10. Yearly colonoscopies...of the last three, 2 showed low grade dyspalsia, one was normal.

Concerned as to whether I should have the surgery or try alternative medicine [ozone therapy etc].

Feel like surgery is my route, but getting conflicting info on who is a good surgeon in my area. Looking for a good surgeon in the Orange County California area. any recommendations?

Is the dysplasia localized or diffusely spread out in the colon? I had the same issue--in the form of an adenomatous polyp. Because of my long UC history (which turned out to be Crohns after the colectomy) and my family history of colon cancer, they lopped the entire colon out. Many people have a good result with this procedure. I am one who did not. I only wish I had done a little more research before hand, but I didn't know what I didn't know. In retrospect, since it was localized, I wish I had had a resect instead of a total colectomy and not because of the diagnosis of Crohns. It has been very challenging to say the least. That was 16 years ago. I won't go into details here, but if you want to know more, you'll ask. Otherwise, ask a lot of questions from the doctors and do your homework.
